EXTENDED BOTTOM WIPER
Occasionally, we are asked to help with matters of personal hygiene. This can help restore people's dignity
through not having to rely on help, as was the case with this project.
There are a number of "bottom wipers" on the market for
people who find it difficult to reach, but these were not suitable for our biatric client.
A commercially available product (the
Buckingham "easywipe" ) was extended using solvent-weld pipe and fittings used in plumbing. The paper release mechanism
was retained by carefully cutting off and moving the bellows (and release button) to the end of an extension rod running through
the new section.
The use of solvent-weld for most of the construction ensured there were as few places for germs to hide
as possible, made the adaptation very strong, and the whole unit can still be disinfected easily.
